"American Picker" Mike Wolfe Introduces KidPickers.com
"Kids are natural-born pickers - treasure-hunters, collectors, storytellers. KidPickers.com is the ultimate 'show and tell' experience for children."
LOS ANGELES, June 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mike Wolfe, creator and star of television's hit series "American Pickers," has been a picker all his life. He started with a rusty old bicycle left for dead in an alley near his home, a priceless treasure for a child without a bike or means to buy one. From that day to this, he has known and made a life of, the joy, adventure and unmatched education that comes from picking. And while the millions of adult fans of History's® "American Pickers" may just be learning this, millions of children also tune in every week. To them, Wolfe and his co-stars are just doing what comes naturally -- finding treasures in unexpected places, learning their stories and bringing them home.
For those young fans, Wolfe has created Kid Pickers to inspire kids and educate them about the history of their families and communities through the items they collect. A new social community just for kids, www.KidPickers.com, is now online and a Kid Pickers book will be published by Macmillan in Spring, 2013.
KidPickers.com is "picking central" for young fans 7-14, offering a secure, members-only site where they can share their picking experiences, post photos of found treasures and write about the history they've learned and characters they've met while exploring their neighborhoods and communities. Thousands have already become official Kid Pickers.
Wolfe's mission is clear. "Both the website and my upcoming book are filled with learning moments, mixing history, geography, repurposing, recycling, collecting and most of all, a spirit of adventure."
KidPickers.com is governed by strict privacy standards to protect the members from outsiders and by rules the members themselves must follow, including "No bullying," "Think before posting," and "Have fun." The site has been endorsed by school teachers throughout the country and is being included in classroom curricula.
