American Paper Optics Partners With St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to Educate Public on Safe Solar Eclipse Viewing
Memphis company manufactures exclusive St. Jude solar eclipse glasses
MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- American Paper Optics, the world's largest 3-D glasses manufacturing company, has partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to raise awareness of and promote safety for the Aug. 21, 2017, total solar eclipse. Through Aug. 21, 50 percent of each 10-pack of exclusive St. Jude solar eclipse glasses sold will be donated back to the hospital.
Less than three months remain before what has been deemed the "Super Bowl of the Sky" passes over the United States, and everyone must know how to protect his or her eyes while viewing the monumental event. With art inspired by the patients at St. Jude, the exclusive solar eclipse glasses are interactive and can be colored in, allowing children to create their own original pair of viewing glasses. To enhance safety precautions, the glasses are printed with instructions and best safety practices on the backside.
"These glasses not only support the mission of St. Jude, but the art was creatively inspired by the hospital's amazing patients," said John Jerit, president and CEO of APO. "When we received the artwork, we simply translated St. Jude's vision into an actual pair of glasses that any child or adult can use to safely watch the upcoming eclipse. We couldn't help but smile while manufacturing the glasses. It's so easy to give back to an institution like St. Jude that continually gives so much to others."
The 12 states that will witness the total solar eclipse fall within the "Path of Totality." Viewers inside the path will need the glasses for the partial phases but can carefully view those rare and beautiful few minutes of totality without the glasses. Viewers outside the 12 states will need to wear the glasses the entire time. APO's safe solar glasses block the harmful ultraviolet and infrared rays of light that come from the sun and are essential for viewing the partial phases that precede and follow totality. More than 300 million people are set to see the eclipse, while 100 million people are estimated to be traveling to various areas across the U.S. to take in this historic event in August.
