American Modular Systems Receives DSA Pre-Check Approval for New Gen7 Two-Story Prefabricated School Buildings
MANTECA, Calif., Jan. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- American Modular Systems (AMS) announces the immediate availability of a new Pre-Check (PC) pre-approved by the California District of the State Architect (DSA) for the company's Gen7 Two-Story designs. Launched last year, Gen7 Two-Story models are the latest expansion of the AMS line of Gen7 modular high performance classrooms, an affordable, fast-to-market option for schools wanting to provide healthy 21st Century learning environments configured to their unique specifications.
AMS has an extensive library of updated PC designs for one- and two-story Gen7 classroom buildings pre-approved to meet DSA requirements—a time- and cost-saving shortcut for California schools and community colleges. Using a PC design minimizes the upfront design and plan-check process, allowing schools to increase capacity and modernize facilities on an accelerated schedule—a pressing need addressed by the passage of Proposition 51 last November.
"Prop. 51 funding and Gen7's streamlined approval offer a practical solution, facilitating quick delivery of state-of-the-art schools for students in all areas of the state and from all socio-economic backgrounds," said Tony Sarich, VP of Operations for AMS and Gen7 Schools. "Gen7 Two-Story designs are high quality, flexible buildings that provide a more efficient use of space and natural resources, making it possible for schools to serve a greater number of students on a smaller plot of land at a lower cost than conventional construction."
The two-story Gen7s package low-maintenance design, sustainable materials and green building technology in a compact footprint that delivers twice the square footage as a one-story building constructed on the same site. A choice of two-story models offers multiple floorplans and features, giving schools unlimited options to fulfill their unique architectural vision and program requirements.
Gen7 Two-Story classrooms are available in Interior Corridor and Exterior Corridor models, both featuring vaulted ceilings with Solatube skylights and large low-E windows that increase daylighting for enhanced performance and interior comfort. Unlike many multi-story buildings, Gen7 Two-Story models are whisper-quiet, with a concrete and steel deck floor system that provides greater sound buffering than a wood-framed building.
Like all Gen7s, the new two-story designs are highly energy-efficient, exceeding California Title 24 energy code by 40%-70% in all climate zones—a performance that can achieve Zero Net Energy with the addition of solar photovoltaic panels. The roof system is engineered to support a solar array, which can be added during construction or at a later date.
"Gen7 buildings are future-proof—a solid long-term investment that pays schools back in energy savings and lasts as long as conventional buildings," Sarich said. "We design Gen7s to grow and evolve with schools, fulfilling both today's needs and tomorrow's goals."
