American Lung Association Supports Texas Senate Bill 15
DALLAS, April 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Lung Association supports Texas Senate Bill 15, which seeks to create a statewide energy policy planning entity and process to develop a 20-year energy plan for Texas. As the guardian of everyone's right to healthy lungs and clean air, we advocate for a clean energy future that will improve Texas air quality, thereby improving the quality of life for all of the state's residents.
Creating an energy plan is more critical now than ever, given pending emissions standards and other environmental regulations. In addition, the state's continued growth and an increasing demand for a domestic and cleaner energy source for the foreseeable future can benefit Texas.
There is a need for a study to identify a viable, efficient and low-cost fuel for transportation and power generation that fits with the American Lung Association's overarching principles of protecting lung health. SB 15 will address that need in the scope of the study envisioned.
Planning based on science and collected data can help us take charge of our future needs for clean energy and improved air quality.
