The clinics will follow a week-long awareness campaign around National Influenza Vaccination Week that encourages all persons six month of age and older to receive influenza immunization. On average, one out of five Americans suffers from influenza every year. Influenza and its related complications result in an estimated 226,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths in the U.S. each year. These flu shots are a safe and effective way to protect families and seniors from influenza and are available while supplies last to those who need them.
"These clinics are available to everyone 19 or older," said Penny Gottier Fena, executive director of the American Lung Association in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota. "A flu shot not only protects yourself, but also prevents you from spreading the flu to your family and friends."
The American Lung Association in Minnesota is offering 5,000 free flu vaccines valued at $30, for a total of $150,000 worth of health protection.
The scheduled times are subject to change. Contact your local Walgreens or visit www.LungMN.org for the most current schedule of clinics. If you have questions or concerns about influenza or any other respiratory condition, please call the Lung Help Line at 1-800-LUNG-USA to talk to a nurse or respiratory therapist.
