American Foundation for Suicide Prevention To Raise Awareness and Support Coinciding With an Upcoming Television Episode of "Sing It On" On Pop
NEW YORK, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the largest suicide prevention organization in the United States will continue to raise public awareness for the cause coinciding with an upcoming television episode of SING IT ON, a docu-series airing on Pop, Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 9 PM ET/PT.
SING IT ON is an eight-episode series that covers the world of collegiate a cappella and five teams as they compete for a spot at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Finals. The show's seventh episode, airing on June 24th, tackles the very difficult subject of suicide, as the Nor'easters face an unexpected and tragic loss of their beloved team member and friend. Pop will air a public service announcement created in partnership with the AFSP that will air immediately following the episode.
"Safe messaging around suicide can save lives of others who may be impacted by a mental health condition. The way these students talk about the suicide of their fellow singer is supportive, understanding and real. I hope this episode inspires people to reach out if they need help, or if they are concerned about someone—or even to get involved in suicide prevention," said AFSP CEO Robert Gebbia. "Every day more and more people are joining the fight against suicide to support those affected, advocate for better mental health laws, and spread the message that suicide is not the answer. That message gets stronger with every voice, and we're thankful 'Sing It On' has joined the chorus."
