If you imagine that personal training is a male dominated industry, it's time to revise your thinking. A new infographic from the American Fitness Institute reveals women now make up 62 percent of their personal trainers.
NEW YORK, Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Fitness Institute/- In 2014, the American Fitness Institute reports that female AFI personal trainer now outnumber their male counterparts. Men who were once the vast majority of personal trainers, now make up less than 40 percent of the AFI personal training workforce. The American Fitness Institute is calling this shift a significant change in the personal training industry, an industry which has long been considered male dominated.

Female personal trainers are in high-demand, and as the majority of the personal trainer workforce, they are a force to be reckoned with. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that the personal training industry continues to grow at a rate above the national average. There was also a significant increase in both the number of jobs for personal trainers and an increase in their median pay of $31,720 with the top 10% earning $66,530.
Included in the study, the American Fitness Institute conducted a survey polling a cross section of 2,000 personal trainers. The top five reasons why most women choose to become American Fitness Institute trainers is flexibility, freedom, money, passion, and helping others.
