American Farmland Trust Invites Illinois Farmers To Attend Conservation Cropping Seminars
BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- American Farmland Trust today invited Illinois farmers to attend one of three upcoming Conservation Cropping Seminars sponsored by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, AFT and other partners to learn more about conservation tillage and other practices that will help make their farms more efficient, said Michael Baise, Midwest Director of AFT.
The seminars will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on--
-- January 28: Civic Center, 1901 Tom Merwin Dr., Mendota;
-- February 27: Holiday Inn Convention Center, 222 Potomac Blvd., Mt. Vernon; and
-- March 13: Heartland Community College, 1500 W. Raab Rd., Normal.
"This has been a great collaborative project for AFT and its Illinois partners of USDA-NRCS, the Illinois Department of Agriculture and others to promote cover crops and soil health," said Baise. "The objective of the seminars is not only to help farmers improve the economic sustainability of their operations, but their environmental stewardship as well."
"The best way to learn about new practices is talking with other farmers, so we've built in lots of time for conversation among farmers, agency experts, vendors and researchers," said Jennifer Filipiak, AFT's Natural Resource Conservationist. "While each of the highlighted conservation practices – conservation tillage, nutrient management and cover cropping – are valuable on their own, we look forward to exploring how these practices can work together to yield even greater soil health benefits."
Ag producers, ag industry representatives, certified crop advisors and many others would benefit from attending the seminars.
The fee to attend these full-day seminars is $20. The deadline for registration is January 17.
