AMERICAN EVOLUTION™and Cinébar Productions Announce New, Hour-Long Documentary
"America in 1619: The Year Before the Pilgrims" Highlights Pivotal 1619 Virginia Events
JAMESTOWN, Va., Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Virginia's 2019 Commemoration, AMERICAN EVOLUTION™ and Cinébar Productions announced a partnership to produce an hour-long documentary that examines key events that occurred in 1619 Virginia, which have helped form our nation's place in the world today. The documentary, "America in 1619: The Year Before the Pilgrims," will explore the long-term ramifications of the events and issues that emerged in 1619 and have come to both bedevil and define the United States. These pivotal moments in 1619 include the first representative government in the New World; the arrival of the first Africans to the English North America; and the recruitment of English women to the Virginia colony. These events each played an important role in shaping the American experience.
The documentary is one of nine legacy projects supported by the 2019 Commemoration. The Commonwealth of Virginia is providing major funding for this documentary. The initial screening will take place at the Jamestown Settlement and is planned for a national broadcast in 2019.
"The role of the 2019 Commemoration is to help educate the public about the key events of 1619 Virginia and the continued impact of those events to modern American society. It is critical that we understand our history so we can contextualize our place in the world today," said Kathy Spangler, Executive Director of the 2019 Commemoration. "This documentary will share the stories and help audiences understand the importance of this time in our history and will encourage them to dig deeper to learn more about our AMERICAN EVOLUTION™."
"There is so much history that is relevant to who we are today as Americans that many people don't know about," said Rich Borenstein, co-owner of Cinébar Productions. "We felt that the events of 1619 would make an informative, compelling and entertaining documentary and help viewers understand this important year in American history. We are proud to partner with the 2019 Commemoration and help them advance their mission to inform the public about this pivotal year."
