American Egyptian Strategic Alliance (AESA) advocates to lift the block of $450 million USD in financial aid to Egypt
WASHINGTON, Oct. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the American Egyptian Strategic Alliance (AESA) (www.americanegyptiansa.org) launched an advocacy campaign urging the Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, Representative Kay Granger (R-TX-12), to lift her hold on $450 million USD in financial aid to the Egyptian Government and people. Chairwoman Granger placed a hold on this aid package because she is not convinced that Egypt has an urgent need for these funds. These funds are part of the $1 billion USD aid package pledged by the Obama administration, and signals a strong ongoing effort by the U.S. to secure its historic strategic relationship with Egypt.
The U.S.-Egypt strategic relationship has been a strong foundation of American national security interests since 1979, when in the context of the Camp David Accords, the U.S. granted Egypt a financial aid package to assist with both economic and security interests. During these unprecedented times in the region, AESA believes it is important that the U.S. stands firm in protecting our national security interests by fully supporting the democratic aspirations of the Egyptian people. The $450 million USD is desperately needed by Egypt to help its people – especially the youth - who have struggled economically after the January 25 Revolution. These funds will create the opportunity to drive innovation and a market economy that will work with the western world and further support a new, budding democracy.
The American Egyptian Strategic Alliance is utilizing its vast network of relationships across the United States to encourage fellow U.S. citizens to request that Chairwoman Granger lift the block of $450 million USD in economic aid which will ultimately benefit both the U.S. and the people of Egypt as they transition to a stable and thriving democracy.
