American College of Surgeons Calls on Senate to Vote Against the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014
A return to bipartisan, bicameral efforts to fix the Medicare physician payment system is needed
WASHINGTON, March 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American College of Surgeons is dismayed that House congressional leadership resorted to unreasonable tactics yesterday to pass the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, the 17th short-term patch to the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula in the past decade.
This action undermines the collaborative, bipartisan and bicameral efforts of the past year and denies patients the benefits of physician payment reform policy in the SGR Repeal and Medicare Payment Modernization Act (H.R. 4015/S. 2000 – SGR Repeal Act).
We call on the Senate to vote against the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 and for Congress to return to bipartisan, bicameral efforts to resolve budgetary issues and enact the SGR Repeal Act.
