American Chemistry Council Named One of The Washington Post's Top Workplaces of 2014
WASHINGTON, June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Washington Post has named the American Chemistry Council (ACC) one of its 2014 Top Workplaces.
The award was presented to ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley at a reception on June 19, 2014 at Washington Post headquarters.
The 2014 Top Workplaces were determined based solely on employee feedback through a survey conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a research firm specializing in organizational health and employee engagement.
"Being named one of The Washington Post's Top Workplaces of 2014 is especially rewarding because it was determined by each and every one of us that works here," said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. "It's a great feeling to know that not only do we have some of the most talented and capable employees in Washington, but also that we've created an environment in which people can excel."
ACC employees rated the organization highly in all areas of organizational health, but placed a particular emphasis on noting that the Council has a clear sense of direction, executes its mission and vision brilliantly, and ensures employees feel valued. Other attributes scoring highly among the organization's employees included benefits and compensation, opportunities for career development and advancement, respect for a healthy work/life balance, and productive mentoring by managers.
More than 1,600 area organizations were invited to participate in the application process, representing nearly 75,000 employees in the Greater Washington area. ACC was one of just 150 winners, and one of only eight trade associations recognized.
"We've created a culture that really values creativity, inclusiveness, and respect among staff," said Nacole Hinton, managing director of human resources for ACC. "Those elements create a rich environment where we all feel valued and encouraged to stretch beyond our comfort zones. We work hard to celebrate our collective successes and I couldn't be happier that we've been rewarded by being named one of The Washington Post's Top Workplaces," she added.
Hinton also noted that employees continue to respond enthusiastically to other ACC sponsored activities and benefits, including:
- the ACC University, an online learning platform designed to facilitate skill development by offering more than 135 online and face-to-face courses;
- employee-led Culture and Values, Social Responsibility, and Social Activities committees;
- HealthySteps, an association-wide wellness program;
- commuter subsidies;
- an onsite, complimentary fitness center and weekly yoga classes; and
- excellent health and retirement benefits, among many other things.
"We appreciate the dedication of our employees and we strive to show it," she added.
