American Association of Nurse Practitioners Honored with Aster, ASAE 'Power of A' Awards
WASHINGTON, July 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) has been awarded two Aster Awards for excellence in health care advertising as well as a prestigious 2017 Power of A Silver Award for the Veterans Deserve Care Public Awareness Campaign by the American Society of Association Executives™ (ASAE).
AANP initiated this important campaign to increase awareness and mobilize support for a rule proposed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) granting America's heroes direct access to health care administered by nurse practitioners (NPs) in the Veterans Health Administration. SevenTwenty Strategies, AANP's agency of record, provided public relations and media services in support of the winning campaign.
"There is no doubt the Veterans Deserve Care campaign elevated the public's interest in securing timely, effective and quality care for those who risked and gave so much in defense of our nation, and that's what this campaign was really about: ensuring veterans access to the best care while reducing long wait times," said Dr. Joyce Knestrick, CRNP, FAANP, President of AANP. "We are proud that our nation's veterans have gained direct access to high quality, nurse practitioner provided health care."
In May of 2016, the VA published the proposed rule and opened a 60-day public comment period. The campaign brought together 37 veteran, senior and health care organizations to increase awareness of the issue and mobilize veterans, their families, health care practitioners and other citizens to support the proposed rule. The campaign generated over 63,000 comments to the VA and over 47,000 communications to Members of Congress in support of the rule.
As a result of the outpouring of public support, the VA adopted a final rule and the integrated campaign garnered over 225 million media impressions and according to a national omnibus survey, the overwhelming support of 88% of the American public.
AANP is the largest professional membership organization for nurse practitioners (NPs) of all specialties, represents the interests of the more than 222,000 licensed NPs in the U.S. AANP provides legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels, advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NP patients and other health care consumers.
