American and Israeli Youth to Enjoy Sunshine, Not Sirens
25 teenagers from southern Israel will join American youth on an Israel summer program for 3 days of dialogue and fun, thanks to the generous donations from the teens' communities
JERUSALEM, August 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Over 120 American teenagers on Camp Morasha's Sulam summer program, operated by Keshet: The Center for Educational Tourism in Israel, will host Israeli peers in Eilat from August 6-8, offering them rest and relief from the constant barrage of rocket attacks. While traveling throughout Israel during Operation Protective Edge, Sulam campers have participated in many volunteer projects to support Israeli citizens and the Israel Defense Forces. In Eilat, the two groups of teens will have an opportunity to connect and share experiences while having fun and enjoying water sports.

Parents of Sulam participants and their communities raised the funds so that their children could do something meaningful for some of the Israelis suffering throughout this difficult time. According to one parent, "it is important that we the parents, take this opportunity to show our children that Jews respond to challenging times by mobilizing resources to bring love and support to one another."
"It is a real challenge to find the proper balance of continuing the fun 'Sulam experience' while educating our kids about the current situation and running a program that helps the Israeli people," said Rabbi Aaron Fleksher, Head of Sulam. "With the help of our parent body, we have the tremendous opportunity to provide the Israeli children with a much needed getaway, where Sulam can continue to enjoy Israel while simultaneously doing a tremendous chessed. I couldn't think of a more powerful message to send our kids home with."
"I've had the opportunity to speak to the Sulam group on a number of occasions about the current situation in Israel, and they've shown great maturity and understanding and have made a real contribution to Israeli society," said Yitzhak Sokoloff, Founder and President of Keshet.
