American Airlines Offers Great Gifts for Mother's Day That Also Support Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Earn Miles with Donations or Purchase Travel Gift Cards Benefiting Komen for the Cure
FORT WORTH, Texas, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As Mother's Day approaches, American Airlines invites customers to join the fight against breast cancer while honoring the important women in their lives on May 9.
Purchasing an American Airlines Gift Card is a great way to surprise mom with the gift of travel. While the card presents a way to literally give her the world, it's a gift that will also contribute to the battle against breast cancer, as American will donate $5 for every $50 of travel purchased to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® when you select the Komen Gift Card option.
Another way to honor women this month is by making a donation to Komen for the Cure through American's Miles for the Cure® fundraising campaign. Miles for the Cure rewards donors with five AAdvantage® miles for every dollar contributed to Komen with a minimum $25 donation.
"For more than 26 years, American Airlines has partnered with Komen in its mission to end breast cancer forever," said Roger Frizzell, American's Vice President – Corporate Communications and Advertising. "Mother's Day is an important time for all of us to renew our efforts against breast cancer. We invite our customers to join us in that fight while honoring the women in their lives who have been affected by this disease."
American customers can learn more about both gift options by simply visiting www.aa.com/komen. Miles for the Cure donations can be general contributions or gifts made to celebrate and honor a loved one's survivorship or in memory of a loved one. When an "In Honor" or "In Memory" gift is received, Komen will send a personalized tribute card to the recipient, notifying them of the donation without revealing the amount.
The American Airlines Gift Card is available in denominations from $50 to $1,500 and can be applied toward the purchase of any American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection carrier published fare. Unlike many gift cards, there is no expiration date. To purchase the gift cards and support Komen, simply go to AA.com/giftcard. When completing the payment information, enter "Komen" in the tracking code box. Donations to Komen apply to online purchases only.
"American Airlines has been a remarkable partner over the years. We are so grateful to American and its customers who are aiding us in our quest to save lives and end breast cancer forever," said Katrina McGhee, Senior Vice President of Global Business Development and Partnerships, Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "Miles for the Cure and the American Airlines Gift Card are a terrific way to show the special women in our lives how much they mean to us this Mother's Day."
In 2008, American Airlines expanded it long-standing support for Komen for the Cure by becoming the first of Komen's corporate sponsors to fund a groundbreaking Promise Grant, committing to raise $1 million annually over eight years for a study of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center's Morgan Welch Breast Cancer Research Program and Clinic in Houston. Komen Promise Grants are multi-million dollar, multi-year grants that require collaboration across a wide range of disciplines – scientists, medical professionals, caregivers, public health specialists and advocates – to conduct research with the highest potential to deliver treatments or prevention strategies for breast cancer more quickly.
