American Airlines and China's Hainan Airlines Launch New Codeshare Service
FORT WORTH, Texas, March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines and Beijing-based Hainan Airlines have implemented their new codeshare agreement, providing significant growth opportunities for American in China and for Hainan in the United States. Customers can now book these new codeshare flights for travel beginning March 25.
The codeshare relationship complements American's existing service to China. Currently, American operates nonstop service in three U.S.-China markets: Chicago O'Hare-Beijing, Chicago O'Hare-Shanghai and Los Angeles-Shanghai. American and American Eagle offer more than 450 daily departures from Chicago O'Hare, and nearly 150 daily departures from Los Angeles.
The codeshare agreement includes:
- Display of AA's flight numbers (AA*) on Hainan flights between Seattle and Beijing as well as on Hainan flights beyond Beijing to Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Kunming and Urumqi.
- Display of Hainan's flight numbers (HU*) on American flights between Chicago and Beijing and Shanghai, Los Angeles and Shanghai, as well as on American flights to and from 12 other cities in the U.S.
"We look forward to working with our new partner, Hainan, to provide even more international travel options for our joint customers," said John Bowers, American's Managing Director of Asia / Pacific – Strategic Alliances. "China is one of the world's fastest growing travel markets, and this new codeshare relationship will give our customers opportunities to connect to new destinations throughout the country."
"As we expand our network and fleet internationally, Hainan's new codeshare partnership with American opens a range of opportunities for our customers on both sides of the Pacific," said Joel Chusid, Managing Director, North America for Hainan Airlines. "American's Chicago and Los Angeles cornerstone cities complement our Seattle and Toronto gateways and add both flexibility and convenience to address the rapidly growing traffic between China and North America."
Hainan, a Skytrax 5-Star airline, operates more than 2,800 weekly flights to cities throughout China as well as to other destinations in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America. From its Beijing hub, Hainan offers more than 400 weekly flights, including service to more than 60 Chinese cities.
The agreement between American and Hainan increases American's presence throughout Asia. The two airlines are working to provide additional benefits to their customers in the future.
