SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Academy of Ophthalmology today announced the promotion of Flora Lum, M.D., to Vice President of Quality and Data Science.
Dr. Lum will lead the organization's newly created quality and data science division. She oversees a team that is primarily charged with the ongoing management of the Academy's IRIS® Registry.
Under her guidance, the ophthalmology clinical data registry that enables ophthalmologists to benchmark performance and improve quality of care is now used by more than 10,000 physicians across the country. The IRIS Registry is one of the largest and fastest-growing clinical registries among those dedicated to a single medical specialty.

During the past 11 years, Dr. Lum had led the Academy's quality of care and knowledge-base development initiatives. Those efforts will continue as a dedicated division within the Academy.
Dr. Lum earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
