American Academy Of Matrimonial Lawyers Statement On Supreme Court's Repeal Of DOMA
CHICAGO, June 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to today's Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers has issued the following statement:
"We fully support the Supreme Court's decision. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) had infringed upon the rights of same-sex couples, who can legally marry in a growing number of states," said Alton Abramowitz, president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. "Same-sex married couples should not have been denied the benefits of more than 1,000 Federal laws available to heterosexual couples, which had been the case with DOMA."
