BERLIN, April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Policy Control and Data Pricing event, Amdocs (NYSE: DOX), the leading provider of customer experience systems and services, today introduced the Amdocs Wi-Fi Experience Solution, a pre-integrated Wi-Fi control and monetization solution that enables mobile and fixed broadband service providers to accelerate the introduction of innovative Wi-Fi services.

The Amdocs Wi-Fi Experience Solution allows service providers to extend existing data services with Wi-Fi. The solution features leading policy control and authentication capabilities for subscriber onboarding and service innovation, as well as a portal framework that integrates with the service provider's existing customer service portal and payment systems for rapid service monetization.
Leveraging Amdocs' extensive network control solutions proven at tier-1 service providers, the Amdocs Wi-Fi Experience Solution:
- Enables a seamless access experience from 3G and 4G to Wi-Fi, with no need for the subscriber to re-authenticate
- Supports Wi-Fi roaming and Wi-Fi services as an extension of a 3G, 4G or fixed data service bundle, with flexible metering options based on time, volume, speed and quality of service (QoS)
- Allows monetization of casual users of Wi-Fi services, such as a day pass, and the ability to associate multiple devices to a common Wi-Fi, mobile or fixed broadband data plan
The Amdocs Wi-Fi Experience Solution consists of key Amdocs network control products pre-integrated as a single Wi-Fi system, including Amdocs Service Controller (AAA), Amdocs Policy Controller, Amdocs Subscriber Data Broker and a portal integration framework. These products offer multi-network support and extensive interoperability with network elements such as gateways and deep packet inspection devices, enabling ease of deployment in mixed vendor heterogeneous network (HetNet) environments.
According to a global service provider survey on Wi-Fi deployment trends announced in January, service differentiation is now viewed as the top driver for Wi-Fi – ahead of Wi-Fi data offloading. The survey, conducted for Amdocs by Analysys Mason, found that the majority of service providers cited service differentiation as the #1 driver for their Wi-Fi strategies.
"We expect handset Wi-Fi usage to grow to more than 60 percent of overall mobile phone traffic in the next few years, while tablet Wi-Fi usage will remain constant at more than 80 percent of traffic," said Chris Nicoll, principal analyst at Analysys Mason. "Service providers must capitalize on Wi-Fi's popularity and are now attaching increased significance to Wi-Fi as a service differentiator, using it to deliver incremental value to their customers and to open the door to new monetization opportunities."
"Service providers are seeking ways to easily integrate Wi-Fi into their offerings, such as providing a shared data quota across multiple devices and networks," said Rebecca Prudhomme, Amdocs vice president for product and solutions marketing. "Unlike standalone Wi-Fi solutions, the Amdocs Wi-Fi Experience Solution offers a common data subscription management approach across 3G/4G/Fixed and Wi-Fi, and ties into existing payment systems for service monetization. Our pre-integrated approach provides a time to market advantage over vendor-specific Wi-Fi solutions, and helps operators address today's imperative of providing customers a range of Wi-Fi services, as part of a broader HetNet strategy."
