Amdocs Benchmark Sets New Record for Large-Volume Processing of Prepaid Voice, Data and Messaging
Demonstrates real-time service control for more than 510 million busy hour call attempts (BHCA) using the Linux operating system on low-cost hardware
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Amdocs (NYSE: DOX), the leading provider of customer experience systems, today announced the results of a benchmark that tested the Amdocs jNetX NextGen SCP (service control point) product, using the Linux operating system on HP ProLiant BL460c servers in BladeSystem c7000 enclosures and Intel® Xeon® processors. The benchmark demonstrated real-time service control for more than 510 million sessions and events during peak calling hours, also known as busy hour call attempts (BHCA). No other industry benchmark publicly reported processing of such a high volume of prepaid voice, data and messaging sessions and events.
"Prepaid usage accounts today for more than 75 percent of total subscribers worldwide and is as high as 80 to 90 percent in some emerging markets," said Brian Partridge, Vice President of Network Research at Yankee Group. "Next generation SCP platforms combining cost-effective hardware and open source operating systems will drive the performance and scalability to support millions of subscribers at the lowest possible cost."
Benchmark Highlights:
- High throughput to support large volumes: More than 510 million BHCA processed, which is equivalent to 140,000 voice calls, SMS's and data downloads per second – demonstrates that the combination of the Amdocs jNetX NextGen SCP with HP's BladeSystem servers and Intel® Xeon® processors can support large event volumes;
- Low latency for a better customer experience: Average latency between 10 and 31 milliseconds, depending on traffic type and test scenario – demonstrates that the combination of the Amdocs jNetX NextGen SCP with HP ProLiant BL460c servers in BladeSystem c7000 enclosures and Intel® Xeon® processors reduces prepaid call set-up time, resulting in a better customer experience;
- Central Processing Unit (CPU) efficiencies for maximum productivity: 4,324 sessions per second per core – shows Amdocs jNetX NextGen SCP's ability to maximize the multi-core productivity of Intel® Xeon® processors;
- High availability despite reduction in servers: Upon sudden removal of one server from the test environment, Amdocs jNetX NextGen SCP continued to run on the remaining HP BladeSystem servers demonstrating the same high throughput and low-latency CPU performance, with the load increasing on remaining servers;
- System stability over time for high traffic volumes Tests showed that the combination of the Amdocs jNetX NextGen SCP with HP's ProLiant 460c server blades and Intel® Xeon® processors supported high traffic volumes without impact to system performance and with the same low latency levels for an extended period of time;
- Results achieved using an SCP solution built in Java: Amdocs' SCP is built in Java as opposed to C-based solutions of most SCP platform vendors. Java brings significant benefits to operators in terms of its open programmability and time to market for new services or network adaptations.
The benchmark was conducted at the HP Partner Technology Access Center in Houston, Texas.
