Amazon Dominates as #1 Shopping App Among Smartphone Users in U.S., While Flipkart Establishing Similar Stronghold in India
Monthly Report from Informate Measures Smartphone Usage Across 12 Countries, Finds 34% Accessing Amazon App in U.S. But Less Than 3% in 10 Other Countries
SEATTLE, April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- While Amazon is winning the battle for smartphone shoppers in America, it has yet to achieve the same dominance in at least ten other countries internationally. This is the key finding of a monthly report from Informate Mobile Intelligence that tracked and measured consumer use of smartphones in 12 countries during February 2015. A full copy of the report can be viewed online at http://informatemi.com/blog/?p=188
The new report reveals shopping apps as having the highest penetration in the U.S. at 60 percent followed by India at 46 percent. The other 10 countries measured, by comparison, only had a median reach of about 18 percent.
"Amazon is the number-one shopping app in the U.S. and by quite a margin," said Informate CEO Will Hodgman. "Amazon's reach among American consumers was 34 percent during the period – more than the combined reach of the number two and three ranked shopping apps – Walmart and eBay. Yet, in ten of the other eleven countries measured, Amazon has yet to show similar command as it competes with more local players. For example, Flipkart was the most used shopping app in India with a 27 percent reach followed by Snapdeal at 19 percent and then Amazon at 12 percent."
