SAN DIEGO, Nov. 6, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Medical Association (AMA) presented John Tooker, M.D., M.B.A., MACP, an internist in Philadelphia, Pa., with its 2010 Medical Executive Lifetime Achievement Award today at its semi-annual policy making meeting. Dr. Tooker has been a leader of the American College of Physicians (ACP) since 1995, serving as deputy executive vice president and chief operating officer (1995-2002), as its executive vice president and chief executive officer (2002-2010), and currently as associate executive vice president.

Dr. Tooker is closely involved in quality improvement and health information technology efforts, serving as chair of the board of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and on the Board of Directors for the National eHealth Collaborative (NeHC), following a term as Chair of the Board of Directors. He also serves on the boards of the National Quality Forum, the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology, and the Electronic Health Record Patient Safety Advisory Board. He represents ACP as a founding member of the AQA, serves on the Quality Alliance Steering Committee (QASC), and on the leadership team of the Catalyst for Payment Reform. He was voted one of the "100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare" by Modern Healthcare magazine in 2009.
Dr. Tooker received his medical degree from Colorado University in Denver, Colo. and is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care.
