AMA Honors California County Supervisor With Top Government Service Award
WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Medical Association (AMA) today presented Bob Buster, vice-chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Riverside County, California, with the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service. Supervisor Buster was selected for the AMA's top government service award for leading the Riverside County Access to Care Coalition and its ongoing efforts to preserve health care access by confronting an acute physician shortage in Riverside County.

"Supervisor Buster has gained the admiration of physicians for working to help a large community as it struggles to provide access to high-quality health care, especially for indigent and vulnerable patients," said AMA Board Chair Rebecca J. Patchin, M.D. "His dedicated efforts to improve health care access and raise awareness among the public and elected officials will make Riverside County a healthier community for all its citizens."
Supervisor Buster is one of nine honorees chosen to receive the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service, and the only career public servant at the local level to be honored this year. The award, named for the founding father of the AMA, recognizes elected and career officials in federal, state or municipal service whose outstanding contributions have promoted the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.
"Through the Nathan Davis Awards, the AMA salutes government officials who go above and beyond the call of duty to improve public health," said Dr. Patchin. "Award winners come from every branch of government service and are a testament to the important role public officials play in creating and implementing health policy that benefits Americans."
Supervisor Buster was nominated for the AMA award by David Friscia, M.D., president of the Riverside County Medical Association.
This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Dr. Nathan Davis Awards. Others being honored this year include Governor John F. Baldacci of Maine and Donna Christensen, M.D., delegate to Congress from the U.S. Virgin Islands.
