WASHINGTON, Oct. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- America's most experienced designer and builder of light tactical military vehicles, AM General, will showcase several offerings from its diverse Family of Light Tactical Vehicles and training operations at the 2013 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting & Exposition at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C., Oct. 21-23, Booth 2825/ Lower Level/ Hall B.
Items on display include:
The Blast Resistant Vehicle – Off road (BRV-O) Joint Light Tactical Vehicle: The new BRV-O represents more than a decade of AM General investment in research, development and testing for this next-generation U.S. Army and Marine Corps vehicle. Last year, the U.S. Government selected AM General's JLTV proposal for a $64.5 million Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase contract. In August, AM General delivered 22 BRV-Os and associated trailers ahead of schedule to the U.S. Government for a full complement of testing in the EMD phase. Unconditionally accepted, these 22 vehicles included a 4-seat variant Combat Tactical Vehicle in three different configurations and a 2-seat variant Combat Support Vehicle that enables different mission roles across the full spectrum of military operations.
The Ground Mobility Vehicle 1.1 (GMV): Utilizing groundbreaking technologies for greater performance and mission flexibility, AM General's innovative GMV 1.1 solution for domestic and international rapidly deployable forces demonstrates unmatched power and mobility and is specifically designed to be deployed quickly from inside a C/MH- 47 / CH-53 helicopter. The GMV 1.1 is a platform that meets specific operational requirements by incorporating a variety of Government Furnished Equipment to enable mission success. Its 70 -percent parts commonality with the current HMMWV significantly reduces Operations and Support costs for parts, maintenance and training at a time of increasing pressure on defense budgets.
Modernized HMMWV Chassis: This vehicle enhancement program is designed for HMMWVs that will continue to be in the U.S. and international military fleets for 30-plus years. AM General's modernized chassis has been upgraded after 10 years of R&D investment to support heavier vehicle operating weights, thereby increasing payload capacity at the same time as providing full crew protection with modular and scaleable kitted armor. Additionally, the upgraded cooling system provides higher cooling capacity to ensure the HMMWV will meet or exceed all operational requirements at a heavier operating weight and in significantly higher temperature environments. These improvements have resulted in not only a more capable vehicle, but also a more durable and reliable one.
On/Off road Light Tactical Vehicle Simulator: The AM General AUSA booth will feature a 180 -degree, three-channel plasma screen, On/Off road Light Tactical Vehicle Simulator creating an immersive driving environment that combines the look and feel of our Light Tactical Vehicle traveling through a variety of tactical military missions and adverse weather conditions. The driving scenarios used in this highly interactive simulator are currently being used to train U.S. and international customers at the AM General Light Tactical Vehicle Training Center, located in South Bend, Ind. In addition to a driving simulator, the AM General Training Center features a 320-acre off-road training course, classrooms for interactive instruction and hands-on equipment technical training bays.
