To help pick the VC100 this year, the AlwaysOn editorial team sourced data from its research partners Morgan Stanley, VentureDeal, The 451 Group and select industry experts on more than 300 active VC firms as well as reviewing their investments and exits. The winning VC firms were selected based on performance relative to the number of successful exit deals from their portfolio companies from October 1st, 2007, through September 30th, 2010.
"This year's awards are all about boldness and confidence in challenging times. This distinguished selection of the hottest venture capital firms is a testament to their unparalleled ability to consistently identify the next big thing, partner with the brightest entrepreneurs and accelerate the creation of new, disruptive businesses," said Victor Boyajian, global chair, SNR Denton Venture Technology Group, formerly Sonnenschein. "As a top 10 venture law firm with offices from Silicon Valley to New York to London and around the globe, we take great pleasure in recognizing those who excel in driving innovation."
"After a sluggish decade that saw two recessions, the venture capital industry once again is picking up speed and proving that it is able to overcome a daunting economic climate and aid in the growth of the private economy," said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. "Venture capital plays a vital role in the economy and innovation. Not only do they help bring to life technologies to improve our lives, but also by adding jobs both here in the U.S. and abroad. The honorees on this list have shown the patience, durability and tenacity needed to succeed in an often volatile market."
Many of this year's winning firms will be in attendance at Venture Summit Silicon Valley, a two-day gathering that highlights the significant economic, political and technology trends impacting the global growth investor. It features keynotes and panel discussions from some of the most influential institutional investors, venture capitalists, corporate buyers, investment bankers and analysts in the world.
