Alta Waverly Owners Continue Community Outreach in Wake of Oakland Fire
Real Estate Developer Offers Support to Impacted Residents
OAKLAND, Calif., July 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Wood Partners, a national real estate developer and owner, continues to express concern and a commitment to support the residents impacted by the four-alarm fire that destroyed the Alta Waverly construction site and displaced several locals early Friday morning.
"We have been impressed by the responsiveness and generosity of Wood Partners during this time of crisis for the community," said Trevor Riggen, Regional CEO of the American Red Cross. "Wood Partners, including both its CEO and West Regional Director, have proactively worked with us to help the affected residents."
The 196-unit property, which also included 31,000 sq. ft. of retail space, was 60% completed at the time of the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with national investigators arriving in Oakland Monday to aid the efforts. Some 700-900 residents were initially evacuated from the area on Friday, though most were allowed to return home Sunday evening.
"Our hearts go out to our neighbors who have been affected by this tragedy and we are working closely with the City of Oakland and the American Red Cross to continue to provide assistance," said Joe Keough, CEO, Wood Partners. "In addition to assisting the investigation into the cause of the fire, we are committed to ensuring the community gets the support it needs during this time."
Currently, 15 hotel rooms at two local hotels have been secured for displaced residents, in partnership with the Oakland Visitors Bureau. In addition to those temporarily displaced, 18 neighboring housing units have been deemed currently uninhabitable, and those residents may require temporary housing. Wood Partners will continue to partner with city officials and the American Red Cross to offer assistance to those residents and the community.
The American Red Cross continues to provide support for impacted residents, and encourages anyone who needs assistance to visit their Oakland office at 3901 Broadway or call (510) 595-4441.
