Alt-Right Cancels Armed Protest at Nexus Services and Blames Media
Statement from Nexus Services CEO Mike Donovan, whose company was targeted by anti-immigration and white nationalist protesters at its headquarters. They threatened "another Charlottesville" - and now the relief at Nexus and across Augusta County is enormous.
VERONA, Va., March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- When organizers of the alt-right, white supremacist and armed-militia groups announced that their demonstration, planned for Saturday, had collapsed, their target, Nexus Services, Inc. and its CEO Mike Donovan couldn't be happier.
"Since racism and division are not Augusta County values," Donovan said, "I guess organizers couldn't find any people in our community who share their hate. Maybe they should change their name from 'Three Percenters' to 'Zero Percenters.'"
"We're really pleased by the outpouring of support that we have received from so many members of the community. The volume and strength of that support has been both astonishing and comforting."
Donovan continued: "When we heard of the initial demonstration, we just could not sit idly by and allow these voices to be heard without presenting our worldview and conveying the truth."
"Nexus embraces the right of all to speak and assemble peacefully under the First Amendment of the Constitution. At the same time, it is important we build up our community rather than tear it down. After the Charlottesville riots last year, it is such a relief to know that this rally based on division, hate, and fear will not take place."
"The ties that bind us together as a community are so much stronger than issues that divide us. In the marketplace of ideas, diversity, hope, love, and the respect of the inherent worth of all people should always prevail over division and hate."
"We are proud of the work our company does every day. We honor and respect this community as our home. Thank you to all who stand with us against forces that would divide our community through hatred, separation, and violence. These are not Augusta County values."
