Alstom to provide high efficiency Heat Recovery Steam Generators for two combined-cycle gas power plants in Texas
A contract worth approximately €90 million in the US
WASHINGTON, Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Alstom has signed a contract worth approximately €90 million (over $100M) with Exelon Generation to supply four Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) for two new combined-cycle gas power plants in Texas, each equipped with two General Electric advanced, high-efficiency H-class gas turbines (Exelon Generation's Colorado Bend Generating Station in Wharton County and Wolf Hollow plant in Granbury). Construction of the new gas units - each will generate approximately 1,000MW on the Texas grid - is expected to begin in 2015 with commercial operation targeted for 2017.
"Alstom is very pleased to be selected by Exelon Generation to supply its HRSGs for these new plants," said Steve Meszaros, Senior Vice President of Alstom Thermal Power's Gas Business. "With over two decades of experience in cycling design and a unique ability to provide customers with a full range of delivery options, Alstom is positioned as a market leader in HRSG technology for the next generation of high efficiency combined cycle power plants."
Recently, Alstom has secured HRSG orders for three combined-cycle power plants that feature advanced class gas turbines. These HRSGs utilize Alstom's OCC™ Module Design, which is optimized for cycling and constructability. They are capable of high ramp-up rates and high turndown, providing enhanced flexibility for reliable high cycling duty under a wide range of operational scenarios. Alstom's unique, shop-assembled modular design results in fewer heavy component lifts and fewer field welds.
Alstom's HRSG technology recovers exhaust heat from the gas turbines to produce steam that maximizes generation capacity and efficiency. It improves the performance of combined-cycle power plants while sharply reducing emissions with its integrated Catalytic Oxidation (CO) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. Alstom's HRSG solutions will help make Exelon Generation's new units among the cleanest and most efficient in the nation.
