Alsace Campaign Announces New US Marketing Initiative
Teuwen One Image Named Agency of Record for France's Renowned White Wine Region
NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Teuwen One Image is now the agency of record for the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins d'Alsace/Alsace Wine Bureau, in charge of a multi-year US marketing campaign. Alsace, one of France's top white wine regions, is located along the eastern border to Germany in the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Known for their freshness and versatility, these aromatic, terroir-driven wines are produced from Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Muscat d'Alsace, Sylvaner and Pinot Noir.
A full-service, boutique public relations agency, Teuwen One Image spearheaded the Loire Valley campaign for seven years and was most recently a consultant on the Alsace campaign. The new Alsace Wines initiative will continue through 2014, showcasing the region's diverse wine styles, from dry to sweet to sparkling, and their food-friendly nature. The program will expand from core media relations to include educational initiatives for on- and off-premise promotions, advertising and consumer events such as the millennial-focused Wine Riots. Richard Kannemacher, the Director of Marketing for the Alsace Wine Bureau in Colmar, France, says, "We are very excited to introduce a new generation of Americans to delicious Alsace wines -- which are always fresh, aromatic and brimming with pure fruit expression."
Alsace wines have long been beloved by notable sommeliers including Belinda Chang of The Monkey Bar, Juliette Pope of Gramercy Tavern, Michael Madrigale of Bar Boulud and Eric Zillier of Gotham Bar & Grill. Paul Grieco of Terroir stated, "After God created Alsace (or Mother Earth just pushed it up from her bosom), He and the world were a much better place, filled with happy grapes and glorious wines. Now all we need to do is abide by the gospel of Alsace. And there is no better preacher of the region than Teuwen."
Alsace wines fall under one of three Appellations d'Origine Controlees: AOC Alsace, AOC Alsace Grand Cru and AOC Cremant d'Alsace. Comprised of 4,930 growers and 950 producers, about 150 regional brands are sold within the US for $12-25 on average, with Grand Cru's retailing around $40/bottle. Alsace is the only French appellation that clearly notes the varietal on labels, making styles easy to identify by consumers.
