Alpine Electronics and Chamberlain Group Announce New Geofencing Feature in Alpine In-Dash Systems
MyQ® users can create a geographic boundary to activate garage door control
TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., manufacturer of premium in-vehicle infotainment systems, and Chamberlain Group, a global leader in access solutions with its Chamberlain® and LiftMaster® garage door opener brands, announced a new geofencing feature, to be released first quarter 2018, which enables garage door opener control within compatible Alpine in-dash navigation systems. Several of Alpine's aftermarket navigation systems can control Chamberlain and LiftMaster MyQ-enabled residential garage door openers, as well as smart lighting controls and other smart home devices. Now, the geofencing feature can be used to set a geographic boundary around a home that, when crossed, automatically triggers an on-screen prompt asking if the user would like to open their garage door.
"Alpine's partnership with Chamberlain Group and their MyQ app introduced Alpine to the Internet of Things (IoT)," said Mike Anderson, vice president & general manager, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. "The new geofencing and notification features give Alpine owners even more control over their smart home systems directly from the touch screen of their navigation system."
"We're proud to continue building on our partnership with Alpine," said Jim Trainor, vice president & general manager, automotive, Chamberlain Group. "Geofencing is the latest way that Alpine users will benefit from the peace of mind that comes with safely controlling garage door home access from the convenience of their vehicle."
The MyQ app allows users of internet-connected Chamberlain and LiftMaster MyQ-enabled garage door openers to check the status and control their garage door from anywhere with a smartphone or other internet-connected device. The MyQ app can also turn on/off lights and can activate the "Home" or "Away" mode on Nest Learning Thermostats.
The MyQ features are controlled on select Alpine navigation systems via the Alpine Connect smartphone app. The Alpine Connect app aggregates select apps and content from the internet and brings them into the compatible Alpine navigation systems for easier understanding and control in the vehicle.
The MyQ and Alpine Connect apps are available now on the App Store and Google Play for use in the U.S. and Canada. There is a subscription fee of $1 per month or $10 per year to link the MyQ app to Alpine Connect. MyQ through Alpine Connect is compatible with these Alpine navigation systems:
