Alpha Natural Resources Affiliate Operations in West Virginia Honored for Outstanding Safety Record
KINGSPORT, Tenn., June 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alpha Natural Resources (ANR, Inc.) announces outstanding safety performance for 2016, with six affiliate operations in West Virginia honored for safety achievements by the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association.
The six Alpha affiliates received the Holmes Safety Award, presented to selected mines and mining-related entities by the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association (JAHSA), a nonprofit organization. JAHSA began in 1916 to promote health and safety in the mining industry and consists of representatives from Federal and State Governments, Mining Organizations and Labor.
The following Alpha-affiliated operations in West Virginia received the 2016 West Virginia Holmes Safety Award:
Underground Operations
- Marfork Coal Company, LLC Coon Cedar Grove Mine
- Kingston Mining, Inc. Kingston No. 2 Mine
- Mammoth Coal Company Slabcamp Mine
Surface Operations
- Brooks Run Mining Company, LLC Seven Pines
Preparation Plants and Loadouts
- Delbarton Mining Company, LLC Delbarton Preparation Plant
- Black Castle Mining Company, LLC Homer III (Admiral) Processing
Four of the operations are repeat winners of the Holmes Safety Award. Coon Cedar, Slabcamp, the Delbarton plant and the Homer III/Admiral plant were similarly honored last year.

All of these Alpha-affiliated operations received recognition at the State Council's Annual Meeting at the Glade Springs Resort. The West Virginia State Council of the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association sponsors the awards to promote safety in West Virginia coal mines and facilities.
