NORTHBROOK, Ill., Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Allstate Insurance Company is encouraging the college football community to come together and give back to future generations by going All Hands In to celebrate the good happening both on and off the field. With the help of college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit and other football Legends, Allstate is rallying hundreds of fans to volunteer at special community service projects ahead of some of the most highly anticipated matchups to prove that when college football fans come together, good things happen.
Based on statistical research, Allstate identified prevalent challenges facing the communities that are hosting seven of the biggest matchups of the season. Fans from the opposing teams are being invited to participate in hands-on service projects specific to each community's needs.
"Whatever colors are worn, whatever rituals are followed, we know there is magic to be found when both sides come together – even fans of opposing teams – and that's an idea that has never been more valuable than it is today," said Pam Hollander, vice president of marketing for Allstate. "Our goal throughout this season is to inspire fans to put their fandom aside and come together to help make a lasting impact on these communities that are so important to the sport."
The program kicked off on Friday, Sept. 1 in Atlanta, Ga. ahead of the Florida State vs. Alabama matchup. Fans helped build a community garden for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta alongside local Allstate agents, Herbstreit, former Florida State standout Devonta Freeman, and former Alabama standout Courtney Upshaw.
The next project is taking place on Friday, Oct. 13 in Lancaster, TX, right outside of Dallas, ahead of the "Red River Showdown" matchup between Oklahoma and Texas. Fans will join local Allstate agents, along with former University of Oklahoma defensive back Roy Williams and former University of Texas running back Priest Holmes, to renovate Kids Square Park. Volunteers will work with KaBOOM! to install a durable, permanent, all-weather playground. The existing playground is currently closed due to unsafe equipment. According to a report published by CHILDREN AT RISK, 49 percent of Dallas County children are overweight or obese. This new playground will help Dallas-area youth by providing them with a safe place to play for years to come.
All Hands In service projects are taking place on the Friday ahead of the following matchups:
- Oct. 13 – Oklahoma vs. Texas (Dallas, Texas)
- Oct. 27 – Georgia vs. Florida (Jacksonville, Fla.)
- Nov. 17 – UCLA vs. USC (Los Angeles, Calif.)
- Nov. 24 – Alabama vs. Auburn (Auburn, Ala.)
- Dec. 1 – SEC Championship (Atlanta, Ga.)
- Jan. 1 – Allstate Sugar Bowl (New Orleans, La.)
Fans who are interested in participating and learning more about the various service projects should follow #ALLHANDSIN on social media.
Additionally, Herbstreit is celebrating teams that are going All Hands In on the field throughout the season. Each weekend during Herbstreit's Saturday Night Football game coverage on ABC, he is sharing his All Hands In pick of the week that highlights a team who best embodied the spirit of teamwork on the field. Herbstreit is also bringing the spirit of coming together to social media through Allstate's Sweet Talk social campaign. Throughout the season, Allstate is challenging fans to try to say something nice about their opponent using #sweettalk, which may be counter to a fan's natural behavior, for a chance to get a shout out from Herbstreit. Beginning on Oct. 16, anyone trading smack talk for sweet talk and using both #sweettalk and #sweepstakes will be entered for a chance to win a trip to the National Championship.
"I'm no stranger to the passion that exists between fans when their beloved teams are battling it out on the field," said Herbstreit. "I love that Allstate is finding a way to harness that passion by bringing people together and empowering our next generation of fans and players to do good because in the end, that is truly what matters most."
Fans can also record their own #sweettalk videos and send it to their opponents when visiting the Allstate Tailgate Tour, which is making stops throughout the season at 47 different college football games.
