Allstate and The Allstate Foundation Commit Up to $2 Million to Feeding America for Future Disaster Relief Efforts
FORWARD-LOOKING GIFT SUPPORTS FEEDING AMERICA DISASTER-PREPAREDNESS
CHICAGO, Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization, announced today that Allstate, the nation's largest publicly held personal lines insurer, has committed up to $2 million in support of Feeding America's disaster relief fund. The Allstate Corporation approved a $1 million grant to be paid over four years, and The Allstate Foundation approved a contingency grant of up to an additional $1 million through 2014 in the event of significant natural disasters.
"Allstate's support of Feeding America's comprehensive disaster relief program helps provide the funding we need to prepare our network for domestic natural disasters," said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. "Like Feeding America, Allstate is keenly aware of the need for basic necessities during a major storm or prolonged power outage. With this support, we stand ready to deliver much-needed emergency relief to families."
Allstate is also reinforcing an already robust culture of volunteerism. In addition to the grants, Allstate employees recently spent time volunteering at Feeding America food banks to further strengthen the partnership and make a difference in local communities. By teaming up with Feeding America and its network of 200 food banks, Allstate employee volunteers will make a positive difference in the lives of people in the local communities they serve.
"Allstate is proud to support Feeding America's efforts to strengthen their disaster relief program," said Matthew Winter, Allstate senior executive vice president of Insurance Operations and President & CEO of Allstate Financial, and member of Feeding America's board of directors. "Allstate's gift and local volunteer efforts will help provide critical food support to families in the wake of natural disasters and other catastrophes."
During the 2011 storm season, Feeding America provided more than 256 truckloads of food and grocery products to affected families. This includes providing more than 6.4 million meals.
