RALEIGH, N.C., April 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Coming off record-setting participation in the fifth running of the annual Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon (TRM) presented by Inside-Out Sports, event officials have announced a new "early bird" discount price registration effective today. Those who register before May 6 will enjoy special pricing of $50 for either full or half marathon events to be held March 15, 2015. A schedule of incremental price increases over the coming months is available at www.tobaccoroadmarathon.com. You can also see a video capturing the excitement of the event at the TRM YouTube Channel.
Next year's races will return to the Carolina pine-lined American Tobacco Trail (ATT) with its flat, fast, granite-screen course. TRM qualifies 10 percent of its competitors for the Boston Marathon.
"We had record registration this year, almost at capacity for our course. A quick look at the comments on our Facebook page will tell anyone our runners had a fantastic time," says TRM President, Founder and ten-time Boston Marathon Qualifier Kazem Yahyapour. "Not only do we have the fastest course in the state but the cool temperatures of early spring in North Carolina provide ideal running conditions."
The USA Track & Field (USATF) certified full and half marathon courses follow the same path for two miles and then diverge as full marathon runners head north and those in the half turn south to enter the ATT. The first two and last two miles of the courses are on paved roads – the rest are on the ATT. The runners will start from the USA Baseball & Thomas Brooks Park in Cary. The course is largely devoid of hills and the average high temperature for the date (51 degrees Fahrenheit) delivers an ideal performance environment for runners.
All proceeds from both events will go to the following charities: JDRF, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Red Cross and the Rails to Trails Conservancy as well as Wake County Parks and Recreation. This year TRM made $100,000 in donations to these organizations bringing cumulative contributions since its founding to over $400,000. In 2015 the total will exceed a half million dollars.
The Tobacco Road Marathon Association is a non-profit organization dedicated with its sponsors to providing financial assistance to its partner charities by channeling the passions of the North Carolina Triangle area's running community into a powerful force for good.
