Allrecipes Introduces One-of-a-Kind Nutrition Search Tool to Find and Sort Recipes Based On Nutritional Needs
World's #1 Food Site Expands Offering for Paid Supporting Members
SEATTLE, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Allrecipes.com, the world's #1 food site, launches Nutrition Search, an interactive feature enabling health-conscious home cooks to dynamically filter recipe search results based on specific nutrition attributes including calories, cholesterol, sodium, fat, carbohydrates and protein. The new tool searches a large collection of family-friendly recipes that have been created, rated and reviewed by home cooks. The feature is available exclusively to the Allrecipes' community with Supporting Memberships, which, for a low annual fee, provide the most engaged members with an enhanced toolset for personalizing content, searching for nutritional recipes, writing blogs, customizing recipes, printing customized recipe cards and books, and sharing ideas with one another.
"No other food site allows home cooks to search for recipes based on specific nutrition information in such a customizable way," said Lisa Sharples, president of Allrecipes. "We know cooking at home is an important step for eating healthier, and now Allrecipes can offer this innovative, yet simple to use tool to make it even easier for our community to search for healthy recipes to fit their dietary goals and needs."
With its easy to use interface, home cooks simply slide bars for each nutritional category to filter recipes and customize searches. The nutritional values that appear on kitchen-approved recipes are based on individual ingredients that are indexed with nutrition information from the ESHA Nutrition Database. Search results include basic nutrition information under the description of the recipe, so members are able to evaluate each recipe quickly.
Healthy Habits in 2010
Allrecipes created this one-of-a-kind feature in response to user demand; 84 percent of users review nutritional information to select healthy recipes. More than 45 percent of American home cooks made a New Year's resolution to eat healthier meals in 2010, according to a recent survey of the Allrecipes community. With a healthier mindset, more than 75 percent of people surveyed are managing their diets for overall better health, not just to lose weight, and 70 percent of these respondents are paying more attention to healthy eating compared to five years ago.
Allrecipes also offers health-focused resources for free members and site visitors including the Healthy Recipes Collection Page (http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Healthy-Cooking/Main.aspx) and the Healthy Cooking Tab (http://allrecipes.com/features/articles/healthycookingjantomar2010.aspx).
