AlloSource Donates To Burn Survivor Scholarship Fund
Begins a Ten-Year Partnership with the Phoenix Society
CENTENNIAL, Colo., July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AlloSource, one of the nation's largest non-profit providers of skin, bone and soft tissue allografts for use in surgical procedures and the world's largest processor of cellular bone allografts, announced today it pledged an annual financial contribution to the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. Working with burn survivors is an important cause to AlloSource. Many tissue banks no longer process allograft skin because it is difficult and costly. AlloSource remains committed to investing in the processing of human skin for burn care because surgeons around the world consider it the gold standard in the treatment of burns because of its regenerative qualities and greater ability to help heal burns faster.
Through its relationships with burn centers across the country, AlloSource understands that burn survivors have a challenging time returning to the quality of life they previously maintained. The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors helps them do exactly that. For more than 35 years, the Phoenix Society has worked with survivors, families, healthcare professionals and the fire industry to support recovery from burns, improve the quality of burn care and prevent burn injuries. The Phoenix Society is the only national non-profit organization helping burn survivors meet their challenges with community support and the tools they need.
"We are very proud to partner with the Phoenix Society and extend our commitment to helping burn survivors," said Thomas Cycyota, President and CEO of AlloSource. "What the Phoenix Society does perfectly aligns with our mission, and honoring the gift of donation means not only providing donor skin grafts to start the healing process, but also providing additional support to recipients as they return to the highest quality of life."
The AlloSource financial gift will be donated over 10 years and used by the Phoenix Society for its Phoenix Educational Grant Program – the first and only national scholarship program created for burn survivor students. The Phoenix Society, which empowers survivors to reach their full potential, has awarded 88 educational grants since the program began in 2002.
"We believe with a community of support and the necessary tools, those impacted by a burn injury can do more than survive – they can thrive," said Amy Acton, Executive Director of the Phoenix Society. "This timely investment from AlloSource ensures burn patients the very best aftercare they deserve. We can now award scholarships to more applicants each year and support our ongoing programs to assist social reentry after a burn injury, presenting a clear message that all survivors can and should have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams."
As a crucial part of its mission to heal others through the gifts of donation, AlloSource makes an investment in processing donor skin for live-saving and healing purposes. The Company takes extraordinary measures to ensure that allograft skin is always readily available to all burn units treating victims of severe burn incidents. AlloSource's partnership with the Phoenix Society allows it to continue honoring donor gifts by financially supporting skin recipients and their continuing education.
