AlloSource® Celebrates 20 Years of Honoring the Gift of Human Tissue Donation
CENTENNIAL, Colo., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AlloSource, one of the nation's largest providers of skin, bone and soft tissue allografts for use in surgical procedures, and the world's largest processor of cellular bone allografts, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month.
Three Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) founded AlloSource in 1994 after recognizing an extraordinary need to replace diseased tissue in patients in their local communities, while simultaneously providing comfort to families grieving the loss of a loved one. AlloSource, the only non-profit tissue bank with OPOs as Corporate Members, was created from this blend of medical necessity and human compassion. Throughout the past 20 years, the company has evolved from a local organization into one of the largest tissue banks in the country with offices in New York, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, California and Missouri.
"We started two decades ago as an organization with a big mission and I'm proud to say that our mission is still our driving force," said Thomas Cycyota, President and CEO. "The dedication of our employees and OPO partners is the key to our success, and I know our commitment to honoring the gift of donation will always serve as inspiration to advance cellular and tissue therapies to improve patient healing."
Since 1994, AlloSource has provided more than 1.7 million allografts for use in surgical procedures and continues to develop innovative products through research and clinical collaboration with surgical partners. The company has an array of new products, including fresh tissue for cartilage repair, meniscal tissue for transplant and AlloStem® Cellular Bone Allograft, partially demineralized allograft bone combined with adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells.
"When I was working with the founding team to form AlloSource, none of us imagined this organization would have as much of a lifesaving impact as it has had over the past 20 years," said Dr. Ross Wilkins, Senior Medical Director and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board. "I have seen firsthand how AlloSource's proven products have saved the lives of burn survivors, saved limbs from amputation, restored the quality of life of athletes and so much more."
