alliantgroup Hosts U.S. Senator John Cornyn and more than 75 CPAs and Business Owners at Latest Economic, Legislative & Policy Summit
HOUSTON, Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- From October 27th-28th, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and more than 75 professionals representing CPAs and businesses from across the nation gathered for alliantgroup's Economic, Legislative & Policy Summit – the latest event in alliantgroup's ThinkTank series. During the two day event, economic and policy experts including former Alabama Governor Bob Riley; former U.S. Congressmen Jim Ramstad and Rick Lazio; former IRS Commissioners Mark W. Everson, Steven Miller and Kathy Petronchak as well as former Senior Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee Dean Zerbe; provided their forecast for anticipated legislative action, U.S. economic performance and associated policy issues to emerge in 2014 and 2015.
"This is my third year with alliantgroup and every year this organization gets stronger, better, broader and deeper," said Lazio.
On the second day of the event, Senator Cornyn gave the keynote address, focusing on the need for the newly elected Congress and the administration to work together on key domestic and foreign policy initiatives. Specifically, Senator Cornyn listed central issues such as tax reform, job creation and economic growth as areas where Congress and the administration must put partisan politics aside and work for the good of the country. During his speech, Cornyn also stressed the need for more permanency in the tax code, imploring Congress to not only pass the current tax extenders bill that would extend several business-friendly provisions, but also make certain tax incentives such as the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit long-term fixtures in the tax code.
"As for the R&D Tax Credit and some of the other pro-growth tax credits, I would like to see some of them made permanent," said Cornyn.
In addition to Cornyn's speech, the summit provided an in-depth look at the current state of the U.S. economy as various experts offered their recommendations to stimulate job creation and economic growth. Attendees were given an overview of the potential legislative and tax policy changes on the horizon for 2015, including a preview of a number of incentives expected to be passed by Congress in the months ahead. The summit concluded with a roundtable discussion dedicated to the architecture, engineering and construction industries, offering attendees and design-build executives the opportunity to discuss the direction of their respective fields.
"I would like to thank Senator Cornyn and everyone who took the time to attend this event," said alliantgroup CEO Dhaval Jadav. "Our goal in hosting these conferences is to provide thought leadership to our CPA firms and the businesses they serve. By providing our partner CPAs and businesses the information they need to stay ahead of emerging economic and policy trends, it is our hope that we are offering another avenue to ensure their continued success."
