HOUSTON, Sept. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Due to the impact of Hurricane Harvey and ongoing relief efforts in Houston and other affected areas, alliantgroup has decided to extend the deadline for the firm's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Scholarship program to October 16th. The company will announce the winners of the five available $10,000 scholarships by October 31st.
"Given all that has happened to our city and state, we felt that this was the right decision," said Dhaval Jadav, alliantgroup CEO. "Obviously, other priorities are taking precedent at the moment and people need time to get back on their feet. However, alliantgroup remains committed to the program and in encouraging our youth to pursue a STEM education."
The program's scholarships are available to recent high school students in the State of Texas that plan on pursuing a career in STEM related fields. To apply, candidates need to create a short (30-120 second) video discussing how their passion for STEM has inspired their educational goals. The requirements for the scholarship remain the same, with students needing to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
"As innovative technologies continue to change the way we do business, both STEM-based skills and education will be extremely important for those entering the workforce," said Jadav. "Those pursuing a STEM-oriented education will greatly improve their career prospects in our changing economy, and I would encourage anyone passionate about a career in STEM to apply for our scholarship program."
