Alliance for Wireless Power Membership Doubles on Expanded Application of Rezence Technical Specification to Tablets, Notebooks and Laptops
- Membership base expands beyond cellphone and smartphone sector
- Rising mobile network operator and consumer electronics interest
- Only industry-sponsored resonant wireless charging specification from 1-50W+
- CES technology showcase to include a variety of Rezence™ devices and charging surfaces, including the addition of intelligent wireless charging
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- One year following Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014, the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) announces it has doubled its membership and expanded the applicability of the Rezence technical specification to include wireless charging of cell phones and smartphones, tablets, notebooks, laptops and desktop PC peripherals – a truly impressive range of consumer electronics.
Expanded industry support and continued momentum reflects the demonstrated scalability, flexibility and consumer benefits of Rezence technology. Rezence technology delivers wireless power solutions in the 1-50W range that support multi-device charging while preserving freedom of placement in horizontal and vertical dimensions. This gives consumers a true drop and go user experience. In addition, the Rezence specification supports wireless charging of multiple devices with differing power requirements on the same charging surface. The A4WP Rezence specification is the only available industry-sponsored resonant wireless charging standard.
Notable tablet, personal and peripheral brands, and even a leading global airline have joined the alliance, pushing the membership total past 140. Acer, Canon, Dell, DuPont, Emirates, Fujitsu, Hon Hoi (Foxconn), HP, Lenovo, Logitech, Microsoft and Panasonic have joined the A4WP. This sets the stage for adoption of Rezence wireless charging into a wide range of consumer electronics devices. Importantly, in Japan, long a harbinger of things to come in the mobile consumer electronics, leading operators KDDI and NTT DOCOMO have joined existing Alliance members SK Telecom and Deustche Telekom, and demonstrate the growing appeal of Rezence technology to network operators. Their presence assures that consumer demands and performance requirements for mass market deployment are reflected in A4WP ongoing technical work and certification program development.
"The A4WP continues to execute on its technical roadmap that began with a focus on the cellphone and smartphone market opportunity," said Kamil Grajski, President, Alliance for Wireless Power. "By leveraging the unique capability of Rezence technology to readily scale up the power curve the A4WP now brings this innovative technology to a broad range of the electronic devices that consumers use most and care most about."
A4WP members including Gill Electronics, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and WiTricity will showcase a variety of Rezence-based demonstrations including products for automotive, home, office and wearables at CES 2015.
