Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) Announces First Rezence™ Products Following Launch of Global Certification Program
--Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Gill Electronics among first wave of companies to have been granted certification
--TTA and AT4 wireless first Rezence Authorized Test Labs, more to follow
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) today announced the official launch of its global Rezence certification program and that a number of companies have been granted certification of product submissions. Companies meeting requirements for certification include Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Gill Electronics.
A4WP is the only wireless power organization that currently offers certification for next generation wireless charging products based on resonant technology. Resonant technology delivers a real world wireless charging experience that features simultaneous charging of multiple devices with differing power requirements, as well as spatial freedom, which lets consumers charge multiple devices on a single charging surface - without having to hassle with accurate positioning or alignment.
"The A4WP has delivered the only industry-sponsored technical specification for resonant-based wireless charging. With the follow-on official launch of a certification program and the first wave of products with certification granted, the A4WP has cleared a critical hurdle for the smartphone use case," said Dr. Kamil A. Grajski, president of A4WP. "An immediate next step for the certification program is to fill out a global network of test labs to support the needs of an expanding industry that is now rallying around the next-generation Rezence technology."
"In only 18 months since its founding, A4WP has accomplished much. We established a Board of Directors consisting of world-class "can-do" companies, published our specification, grew to over 70 companies, hosted three plugfests, and launched the Rezence brand, to name just a few," said Hugh Kim, Vice President, Product Planning and Advanced Development, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Co. "Now, with certification in place and companies like Samsung Electro-Mechanics obtaining certification, member companies have available a proven end-to-end path for bringing next-generation wireless charging products to market."
To create a world-class certification program, the A4WP enlisted experts both inside and outside the membership with the goal to align the program with ISO 17065, an internationally recognized standard to ensure conformity in the certification of products and processes. Adhering to ISO 17065 principles benefits A4WP members as well as consumers by ensuring any product carrying the Rezence logo has met the strict guidelines set forth by the A4WP certification program to ensure interoperability among products carrying the logo.
Telecommunications Technologies Association (TTA) leads this rollout, becoming the first Rezence Authorized Test Lab (ATL) last month after undergoing the required A4WP due diligence at their South Korea laboratory. AT4 wireless (AT4w) is now also authorized to provide testing services at their Virginia facility for member products seeking certification. TTA and AT4w have the global reach that enables A4WP member companies access to a facility able to thoroughly test and certify qualified product. Over the coming months additional ISO 17025 ILAC-accredited test labs will be added.
A4WP will showcase Rezence based products along with an integrated wireless charging experience at the A4WP lifestyle lounge in the South Hall, S213 at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV, January 7-10, 2014.
