Alliance for School Choice to Unveil Award-Winning Yearbook at National School Choice Week Event
Leading school choice organization will partner with local allies in "The Results of 2011, The Promise of 2012"
WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Alliance for School Choice, a national school choice leader, will unveil its annual School Choice Yearbook—the award-winning publication offering the most comprehensive data on the nation's 27 private school choice programs—at an event during National School Choice Week at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 at 1016 16th St. NW, 7th Floor in the nation's capital.
The event, "The Results of 2011, The Promise of 2012," will be hosted by the Alliance for School Choice, the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, and the Institute for Justice. Participants will showcase the breakthrough gains in enrollment and program growth of 2011, which included seven new publicly funded private school choice programs and the expansion of 11 existing programs.
Also showcased will be an outlook on the upcoming year from Kevin P. Chavous, a former D.C. councilman, leading education reformer, and senior advisor to the Alliance for School Choice, as well as testimonies from local families who have benefited from the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program.
The Alliance's annual Yearbook, entitled School Choice Now: The Year of School Choice, is a collection of the nation's most accurate data on private school choice programs across the country. The 2011-12 edition contains an analysis of trends and information, a directory of the accountability provisions and requirements for each of the 27 private school choice programs, and a chronicle of the events from the past year.
"In 2011, the school choice movement catapulted to the forefront of education reform," said Betsy DeVos, chairman of the Alliance for School Choice. "Our yearbook showcases how the extraordinary work of families, advocates, and legislators truly made 2011 the year of school choice."
"The Results of 2011, The Promise of 2012" will take place at the Fordham Institute, located at 1016 16th St. NW, 7th Floor in Washington, on Thursday, January 26 at 1 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to register at www.SchoolChoice2012.com.
The event is among the hundreds of events nationwide being held this year for the second-annual National School Choice Week, which takes place from January 22-28.
