Alliance For Housing and Healing Commemorates 28 Years of HIV/AIDS Service in Conjunction With the Recognition of 30 Years of AIDS
LOS ANGELES, June 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As leaders and members of the infected and affected HIV/AIDS community commemorate the anniversary of the first recognition of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Alliance for Housing and Healing celebrate over 28 years of providing vital and life-changing services to the HIV/AIDS community. Alliance for Housing and Healing is a vertically integrated nonprofit organization resulting from a merger between Aid for AIDS and The Serra Project.
As we mark this third decade of the AIDS pandemic, Alliance for Housing and Healing remains at the forefront of innovation and integration of services that best serve the HIV/AIDS community in Los Angeles County by offering a continuum of services ranging from emergency financial assistance, nutritional support, case management and various housing services through its group homes, hospice care and independent living apartments. While President Barack Obama prominently featured housing as one of the goals related to increasing access to care and improving health outcomes of those living with HIV/AIDS in the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, Alliance for Housing and Healing is actively implementing programs and services that achieve these goals through its continuum of programs and services. This innovative and vertically integrated nonprofit organization is an exemplary model of operational efficiency and service delivery for some of the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our HIV community.
A number of studies provide evidence that housing is an effective and cost saving health care intervention for homeless/unstably housed persons with HIV and other chronic conditions, "We hope that others will join us in working toward achieving this common goal of increasing access to care and improving health outcomes of those living with HIV/AIDS by looking to housing as a viable healthcare intervention," said Terry Goddard II, Executive Director of Alliance for Housing and Healing.
By focusing on the issue of HIV and housing, we can offer a better solution to reduce the incidence of HIV and improve health disparities by removing barriers that otherwise prevent access and maintenance in both care and treatment. Alliance for Housing and Healing supports and believes this practical approach will continue to demonstrate value for our public health system, ensure quality access to care and treatment and better serve some of the most vulnerable populations living with HIV/AIDS.
