Alley Cat Allies Calls For Full Investigation Into Cat's Violent Beating Death in Arkansas
BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Alley Cat Allies, the only national advocacy organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats, today reacted to news reports that a pet Siamese cat belonging to the family of a campaign manager for an Arkansas congressional candidate was violently beaten to death by trespassers and left for the family to find.
"This is a horrible act of cruelty," said Becky Robinson, president and co-founder of Alley Cat Allies. "Our hearts go out to the family, and we demand a full investigation by authorities into this heinous act."
According to news reports, the Russellville, Ark. Police Department is investigating the case, in which Russellville resident Jake Burris found his family's Siamese cat violently bludgeoned to death. The perpetrators also scrawled "liberal" across the cat's body and left it on the doorstep of the Burris' house. Burris is the campaign manager for Arkansas 3rd District Democratic candidate Ken Aden.
"Killing a cat is a crime in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and there is a well-established link between violence against animals and other violent behaviors. It is critical that authorities bring the killer or killers in this case to justice as soon as possible, for the safety of the community," she said.
