Allergy & Asthma Network Announces Free Webinar on Stinging Insect Allergy and Anaphylaxis
VIENNA, Va., July 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Allergy & Asthma Network, a leading nonprofit patient education organization, invites you to join its upcoming webinar, "Insect Sting Allergy: To Worry or Not to Worry, and What to Do About It" on July 20, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time with David Golden, MD, board-certified allergist from Johns Hopkins University.
There can be a lot of anxiety around an insect sting - and knowing what to do can make the difference! During this 1-hour webinar, Dr. Golden will share strategies for avoiding and treating insect stings, especially if you have a life-threatening allergy.
"For most people stung by a bee or any other stinging insect, there's an immediate painful, burning sensation at the sting site. This may be followed in a few hours by an area of swelling, redness, and warmth which itches and hurts -- in other words, a local reaction," says Dana Wallace, MD, board-certified allergist, past president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI), and Anaphylaxis Community Expert (ACE) from Fort Lauderdale, FL. "When the venom causes a reaction in a place other than where the sting happened, think anaphylaxis. Within as little as 15 minutes, the stung person can have respiratory or cardiac arrest. It is essential that he or she receive epinephrine, the only medication that can reverse the life-threatening symptoms of anaphylaxis, and get to the emergency department immediately."
