Allergy & Asthma Network, ACAAI to Host 2015 Asthma Coalition Summit in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Allergy & Asthma Network, the leading national nonprofit patient education and advocacy organization, is partnering with the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) to host the 2015 Asthma Coalition Summit on Friday, Nov. 6, at ACAAI's Annual Scientific Meeting in San Antonio.
The summit will bring together asthma coalitions, state asthma programs, federal agencies, stakeholders, and partners in allergy and asthma care to share the latest clinical breakthroughs, innovations, lessons learned and best practices.
"The Asthma Coalition Summit will be an informative, engaging forum, with topics that advance guidelines-based allergy and asthma care throughout the United States," says Tonya Winders, president and CEO of The Network. "Many of the people attending are on the front lines of patient care and program development. We look forward to making this an annual event at future ACAAI meetings."
James Sublett, MD, 2015 ACAAI president, is scheduled to open the summit by addressing "The State of Asthma in the United States." Other key topics include: community-based approaches to asthma care, the impact of climate change on indoor and outdoor air, the emerging role of telehealth in asthma care, and improving outcomes for children with severe asthma.
In addition to the summit, The Network will partner with board-certified allergists to host asthma and allergy screenings at educational outreach events in San Antonio the weekend of Nov. 7-8.
- Saturday, Nov. 7: "Learning is Fun" family event, Mission County Park, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT.
- Sunday, Nov. 8: AccessAbility Fest, El Mercado (Market Square), 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT.
The screenings will include breathing tests, symptom evaluation and consultations with local allergists. "It's an opportunity to reach children and families who otherwise might not be tested for these potentially life-changing medical conditions," Winders says. "Thanks to our partners, we will be able to have a positive impact on the San Antonio community during the ACAAI annual meeting."
