Allegheny County Man Wins $370,000 from PA Lottery's Cash 5
CORAOPOLIS, Pa., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Elmer Schaefer, of Moon Township, Allegheny County, won $370,201.50 from the Pennsylvania Lottery's Aug. 20 Cash 5 drawing.
Lottery Area Manager Terri Hopkins today presented a ceremonial check to Schaefer at Sheetz on University Blvd. in Coraopolis, where the quick-pick ticket was purchased. The store receives a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
"We plan on supporting two churches and some other charities, as well as giving to our two children," said Schaefer, regarding plans for his winnings. "We also have some improvements we'd like to make to the house."
Schaefer's ticket matched all five numbers drawn, 06-09-17-22-32, to win the Aug. 20 Cash 5 jackpot worth $370,201.50, less 25 percent federal withholding.
Schaefer, who turned 80 in May, recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Marianne.
"This year has been memorable – I had my anniversary and I won the Cash 5," said Schaefer.
How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five of 43 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using Cash 5 play slips, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. The starting jackpot is $125,000 and grows until it is won. The odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1-in-962,598; overall odds of winning a Cash 5 prize are 1-in-10.51. Cash 5 is the longest-running jackpot game in Pennsylvania Lottery history. Cash 5 tickets first went on sale April 23, 1992.
