ANGLETON, Texas, Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- All of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary's animals are safe despite the flooding that swept through their Angleton facility during Hurricane Harvey's unprecedented damage including a 500-year flood event. The goal was to evacuate all RGS's animals to safety and that is exactly what happened. RGS is currently working around the clock to repair the destruction and bring all the animals back home. A few days ago, we brought the chickens and the ducks back home from the fairgrounds!

Once alerted to the approaching danger, RGS's staff and volunteers moved swiftly, working with multiple transportation companies, animal rescue groups and Brazoria county officials to get their animals out fast. Local ranchers and cowboys pitched in and came together in an awesome show of community support.
The following entities were very instrumental in helping RGS coordinate such a herculean effort:
Rejoice Ranch
We are forever in deep gratitude to Donna, Paul, Aaron, and Christian at Rejoice Ranch for their compassion in offering their 50+ acre ranch as a refuge to the Rowdy Family. They stepped in at a crucial time and helped us make decisions that saved lives.
Rejoice Ranch is currently caring for:
- 59 cows
- 3 horses
- 3 hogs
Brazoria County Fairgrounds
RGS expresses eternal gratitude to the officials at the Brazoria County Fairgrounds, who offered a safe haven to our animals and so many more farm and domesticated animals from around the county. The following list represents who we evacuated to the fairgrounds during this crisis.
- 20 cows
- 3 hogs
- 3 horses
- 26 chickens
- 3 ducks
Everyone above is now cleared from the fairgrounds, and either at RGS or Rejoice Ranch.
Nine Line Transportation
Nine Line Transportation's owner Jeremy Robinson was on the spot during the critical moments of Hurricane Harvey. He left RGS with 3 trailers to go to Rejoice Ranch. The third trailer with 9 cows got stuck in the storm and the amazing trucker Jeremy took the cows, including a calf named Little Guy, to his home and let them graze in his backyard and made a bed for Little Guy in his garage. What a hero!
Eventually, Jeremy was able to get them safely to Rejoice Ranch, in Luling, Texas.
Michelle Cote
We are so grateful to Michelle Cote for stepping in at a crucial time. She came to the Sanctuary while we were in evacuation mode and took Ivy, our potbellied pig, Pepper the goat, and 5 of the Rowdy dogs to safety.
They are staying comfortably with Michelle Cote in Alvin, Texas currently.
Central Texas Pig Rescue and Pig Advocate League
A big thank you to Dan from Central Texas Pig Rescue for delivering supplies and transporting the hogs from the fairgrounds to Rejoice Ranch.
Pig Advocate League coordinated all the supplies and got them to us fast!
Pasados Safe Haven
Pasados Safe Haven, an animal rescue group, was very instrumental in coordination and support, offering hay, various supplies and networking with rescuers and volunteers.
Employees and Volunteers
All our employees rose to the occasion. Animal caretaker Jaelin Brown went above and beyond, working around the clock. Executive Assistant Kathryn DiGiacinto went to the mat coordinating and scrambling to get the animals to safety. Animal caretaker Stephen Lee stayed through the night, relentlessly working to ensure the safety of every animal at RGS.
And, a big thank you to Tommy's sister and brother in law, Lisa and Elliott who were first on the scene at the fairgrounds to help us safely enclose and care for the birds after the initial evacuation. Other volunteers that jumped into action were Charles Armstrong, Robert Thornwaite, Salise Shuttlesworth, and Shawn and his family. Finally, we want to thank Ann and Leah Hidalgo who came right away to help and kept everyone energized with wonderful vegan food.
Others That Helped
Dale Hipp came in and helped get the animals to the fairgrounds, helping to move animals and equipment. Vernon Transportation brought in a large trailer and took the 20 cows from the fairgrounds to Rejoice Ranch. Special thanks to documentarian Glenn Scott Lacey and filmmaker Jon Meyer of Vanjam Productions for moving into action to document the situation and explore the storm's connection to climate change and animal agriculture's profound impact on our environment.
IN SUM
All the cattle, the hogs and the horses are safely and comfortably at Rejoice Ranch. The other animals are also safe and sound at a couple of key locations, as described above. Stay tuned for future announcements.
