CAPE CORAL, Fla., Jan. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cape Royal Golf Club, which in 2017 underwent the start of a transformative redevelopment plan, hosted a season kickoff tournament which raised nearly $5,000 for area charity Saturday, January 13, 2018. The kickoff scramble tournament showcased new features of the course including new greens, new clubhouse design, a new bar and restaurant, updated cuisine, new bathroom facilities, new golf carts and championship service staff managed by Green Golf Partners (GGP).
"The kickoff event went even better than we anticipated. Every player was excited from the moment they arrived until the moment they left with eagerness to return!" said Tyler Arnold, general manager of the Cape Royal Golf Club. "There ended up being enough players to develop four flights (ACC, SEC, PAC 12 and Big Ten) of 9 teams based on results. The flights were named after college football conferences since this was a 'kickoff' event."
"This is what we envisioned when we took over caring for and ultimately buying the golf course property," said Tom Cooper, director at large of the Cape Royal Homes Owners Association. "The partnership between GGP and the HOA is a grand example of what can be accomplished when all involved share common goals and work in concert to achieve them."
Cape Royal Golf Club is a family-friendly, full-service club open to the public featuring some of the finest golf course design and mouth-watering fresh cuisine in the Cape Coral area. General Manager Tyler Arnold, Golf Superintendent Greg Coyne, PGA Assistant Professional and Teaching Professional Greg Doll, and Executive Chef Mark Thomas lead the management team in 2018.
The Caloosa Club, the newly renovated bar/restaurant, provided dinner following the scramble. "The menu of Rum Glazed Ribs, Chicken Char Siu, and Kalua Pork was a HUGE hit! Everyone loved having the variety of foods compared to the traditional hot dogs and hamburgers," Thomas said.
"This renewal has generated a level of excitement among golfers and non-golfers at Cape Royal. Green Golf Partners can be proud of what has been accomplished since the lease signing earlier in 2017. We are very happy with our relationship, and look forward to a great 2018," Cooper said.
World Long Drive Champion Bobby Bradley of Wellington, Florida, hosted a long drive contest that alone generated about $1,700 for the Cape Royal Community Foundation, part of nearly $5,000 raised during the event. The foundation donates college and university scholarships to high school golfers in the Lee and Collier County area.
Other results from the Cape Royal Season Kickoff included these winners:
- ACC Flight: McDaniel / Prendotta / Rudd / Teets
- SEC Flight: Gilstrap / Risner / Bereiter / Jager
- PAC 12 Flight: Sullivan / Sullivan / Baltazar / Baltazar
- Big Ten Flight: Allen / Allen Jr. / Cleveland / Cleveland
- Men's Long Drive: Matt Schmitz
- Men's Closest to the Pin: Lindsey Blackwell
- Women's Long Drive: Julie Plourde
- Women's Closest to the Pin: Jackie Cooper
- Putting Contest: Bob Mills
Cooper added that Cape Royal and the HOA gain from GGP's experience in providing high quality and championship service to guests. GGP manages 17 golf courses and golf clubs in five states, including Kemper Lakes Golf Club in suburban Chicago which will host the 2018 KPMG Women's PGA Championship this June.
"We are ecstatic to be creating a crown jewel in Cape Coral where all golfers and non-golfers are welcome," said Matt McIntee, CEO of Green Golf Partners. "The golf course transformation that's underway is first rate and it is a fun course to play. We look forward to raising the bar in the Florida recreation and golf marketplace for the public."
