Alicia Ouellette Named 18th Dean of Albany Law School

ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albany Law School announced today that Alicia Ouellette '94 has been named dean of the law school, making her the 18th dean in its 163-year history.

"The Board of Trustees feels very fortunate to have Dean Ouellette lead the school into its next era," said Daniel P. Nolan '78, chairman of Albany Law School's Board of Trustees. "She has overwhelming support and confidence from the Board of Trustees and the faculty. She has already demonstrated a capacity for steady leadership and thoughtful decision-making in challenging times. Under her direction, we expect a great future for our students and the institution."

Dean Ouellette was named acting dean in October 2014. Before that she was associate dean for academic affairs and intellectual life, where she helped lead the process to create the school's new Strategic Plan.

Dean Ouellette said her priority is to ensure the law school provides the best possible legal education to students. Her first task will be to execute the school's new Strategic Plan, which embraces student-centered and market-focused strategies designed to ensure that Albany Law students are prepared for career success in the legal profession and in leadership positions outside the legal field.

Penelope (Penny) Andrews, previously president and dean of the law school, announced in October that she is stepping down at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. She will continue to serve as president until that time, working on external-related activities and special initiatives.

On July 1, Dean Ouellette will become President and Dean.
